Keep your blinds shut during the day
Keep curtains and blinds shut during the day as this will help stop the sun’s rays glaring in through the window and making the room feel hot.
Invest in the right bedding
Your bedding has a big part to play in how well you sleep, especially during the hotter months. You should go for a bedding that is breathable and airy. Look for specialist cooling pillows for a more refreshing sleep or try lighter tog duvets, like our Cool Comfort 4.5 tog duvet.
Keep a cool head
A common place people sweat is on their head and face, so it’s important to keep this area cool. The blood vessels on your head sit very close to the surface of your skin and so try freezing a facecloth before bed to use as a cold compress whilst falling asleep, as this can have a big effect on how hot or cold you feel.
Treat yourself to a really good fan
Choose a decent sized fan, such a tower fan, which will cool you down enough to nod off. Many come with an oscillating feature, so will spread the cool air around the room and you can save on your electricity bill by putting them on a timer too.
Cool yourself down with a cold shower
A cool shower before bed will wash away heat and sweat from the day and cool you down before you hop into bed.
Avoid exercise too close to bedtime
If you’re a hot sleeper, it’s important to try and avoid exercising too close to bedtime as your body has to work harder to cool your temperature down during sleep.
Eat the right foods
Did you know eating smaller meals more often will keep you cooler at night? Heavier meals packed with dense proteins and carbohydrates take more energy for your body to break down, which can result in an increase in your temperature.
Limit alcohol intake before bed
Drinking alcohol before bed affects your sleep even more in hot weather, as it can cause hot flushes and night sweats. Boozy drinks cause your blood vessels to dilate and move closer to the surface of the skin, which can result in sweating. Make sure there’s plenty of cool water in your bedroom instead.
